Dear Alison and all
A brief response: our general LD tutorial policy in Plymouth prioritises the confidentiality of our sessions with individual students - i.e. we will only inform tutors that we are working with a student if we have the student's express permission to do this. We use our discretion and professional judgement to decide on a case-by-case basis whether or not we think it appropriate/useful to ask students if we can speak to their tutor about a particular issue ... For a number of reasons, we think it best to maintain this emphasis on confidentiality, although of course we would explain to a student the reasoning behind and the potential advantages of communication with the academic tutor or supervisor, if we felt that it would help in the circumstances.
Happy weekends!
John

We run Dissertation & Major Projects short courses - and we will also
offer support in drop-ins... We try to emphasise that the supervisor is
who they are writing towards...
Best,
Sandra
