italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear Colleagues,
The issue of electronic journals is very timely, and all those involved
in publishing have followed this fairly recent trend, which moves
precisely toward electronic publications.
For electronic publications, in this case journals, to be effective,
they must have the same high standards of traditional publications and
thus they may require as much time as traditional publications: see the
case of the new California Italian Studies, announced about a year ago,
and ready to appear shortly, as I read from Thomas Harrison's email.
As to Annali d'italianistica, the journal has a website
(www.ibiblio.org/annali), which contains the table of contents of all
issues, the introductory essay to recent volumes, and all book reviews
since 1998, freely accessible. I am considering expanding the electronic
publication of the journal.
What the initiator of this interesting debate had in mind, most likely,
may be a forum for discussion, some kind of blog (?), where one can post
one's research and receive some feedback from colleagues. Obviously this
list does also serve this purpose.
Concerning traditional journals, I would like to bring to the attention
of Italianists a journal published at Carolina, Romance Notes, open to
all of us. In fact the editor of the journal solicits submissions from
Italianists because historically essays on Italian issues have appeared
only sporadically. I am posting below pertinent information. For any
Hispanists of the list, I am also posting information about another
journal of our Department, Hispanofila.
Let's keep the discussion going.

*ROMANCE NOTES* is published three times a year. The journal accepts
articles on any literary, cultural, or linguistic topic dealing with
Romance studies. Articles can be written in any Romance language and in
English. The articles should be no longer than 3,000 words in length and
should consist of original material not published or under consideration
for publication elsewhere. Romance Notes strictly adheres to MLA style
and citation format with a bibliographic list including all “Works
Cited” at the end of the essay. The Editors have a policy of “blind
submissions” to readers. Therefore, authors should send their name and
university affiliation on a separate cover sheet. Upon acceptance, one
must become a subscriber to the journal for at least one year. The
institutional subscription is $40.00, the individual subscription is
$30.00 and the student subscription is $15.00. Single numbers are $15.00
The 2009 (Volume 49) subscription rates will be: institutional
subscription $45.00, individual subscription $35.00, student
subscription $20.00. Single numbers $20.00

The /Studies/ supports and disseminates scholarship in the Romance
Literatures. Almost 300 volumes have appeared, treating literary
movements, individual authors and works, themes, figures of speech and
of thought, archetypes and poetics, and making available editions of
unpublished literary manuscripts.
*HISPANÓFILA* appears three times a year. The journal accepts essays on
any literary, linguistic, or cultural topic dealing with the Spanish and
Portuguese-speaking worlds. Articles may be written in English, Spanish,
or Portuguese but cannot exceed 25 type-written pages. Previously
published work and work under consideration by other journals should not
be submitted.
All submissions must conform to the MLA style and citation format, and
include a “Works Cited” bibliography at the end of the essay. The
original, one copy, and an electronic copy are required. Contributions
must be accompanied by a return envelope and loose postage. Upon
acceptance for publication, the author must subscribe to the journal for
at least one year. The institutional subscription is $45.00, the
individual subscription is $35.00, and the student subscription is
$20.00. Back issues and single copies may be purchased for $20.00.
