Thank you all very much for your comments with regard to documentation and for clarifying certain information regarding the laying of supply pipes in contaminated land.
Kind regards

Subject: Re: Laying of Water Pipes
I had this reply to a query as to why the UK WIR does not publish the
6th part to this rather expensive tome;
Pipe Materials Selection and Specification for use in Contaminated
Land - Final Project Report (Sold as part of a 6 document set for £250)
(04/WM/03/9)
The 6th part is the CLIPS database which apparantly has the numbers
in it. The other 5 parts are rather dull unless you're a pipe fitter.
Dear Clive
UKWIR carries out research for and on behalf of its subscribers, the UK
water companies; our project teams decide whether and how the
outputs should be made available outside the industry and advise
UKWIR accordingly. As I understand it, the software is currently only
being used by water companies or others working specifically on their
behalf. This database is under review and may be released externally
or it may be updated and revised before this happens – no timetable
has been agreed for either of these options to my knowledge as yet.
Regards
UKWIR

This was sent to me a year ago, I don't believe anything has changed
since. It strikes me as odd that an industry would not promulgate its
own best practice as widely as possible in order to improve their
industry.
