I don't have any suggestions, but I do have a few questions that might
shed some light on this:
1. How exactly are you building scala (I assume it's something like:
download source distribution -> edit & source config file -> ./configure
; make ; make install -> run test scripts (scala ok) -> edit maxbat in
scala -> cd $CCP4/src/ ; make scala , but I'm not completely clear).
2. What fortran compiler (and version) are you using?
