Not a chance, because the terms of the discussion are invalid and
irrelevant, and all anybody ever does is to retreat behind a bunker
and send out pot-shots at the supposed enemy. On the one hand the
inherent Stalinism of the cultural far-left emerges, on the other hand
things like Don Paterson's or Sean O'Brien's massive ("liberal?")
blanket-bombing of no-one-in-particular for no known reason. Massive
assumptions about value are made without any testable basis or ground.
Personal options are treated as manifestoes, opportunistic destructive
acts are claimed as missionary campaigns...
But my main point is that it creates an unhealthy climate for poetry
writing itself. You have to make a real effort not to think yourself
into a cage.
