Dear List members,
I am new on the list. My name is Rolf Johansson and I am a visiting professor in Theory
and Methods of Landscape Architecture at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
in Uppsala, Sweden.
Together with a colleague, Sofia Sandqvist, I am doing a small study of the practice of
project reviews in schools of art and architecture. Since the project review or the ‘crit’
has a central role in educations in
art and architecture, as to develop student´s design, and intra-disciplinary language,
skills, I hope this can be an issue for the mailing list.
The main purpose of our study is to develop a strategy to enhance the quality of project
reviews both as a learning experience and as an assessment point in our own Landscape
Architecture Programme. We have interviewed qualified and experienced critics and as a
result we will develop models for formative and summative design reviews.
We are also interested in the physical setting in which the ‘crit’ takes place. Evaluations of
schools of architecture have shown that students frequently complain about acoustics in
relation to crits and studios (Nasar, Preiser & Fisher: Designing for Designers). We are
looking for good examples. If you have good experiences from a physical setting for the
‘crit’, please share experiences.
Feel free to respond to the list or directly to me, [log in to unmask]

Thanks.
