Inclusive Design Research Fellow (Ref: 7233)

24 months from 2nd November 2009
Salary: £28,839 per annum
Applications are invited for a full time Research Fellow to work on the SUS-IT project: sustaining IT use by older people. The post holder will be responsible for a combination of conceptual design and qualitative research work associated with three innovation workshops to be held with older people groups. Design work will involve creative envisionment of new uses of emerging technologies for this market, through demonstrations and dramas. Research work will involve literature reviews, plus analysis and documentation of workshop discussions.
The researcher will be based at Digital World Research Centre at the University of Surrey and supervised by Professor David Frohlich. However, Surrey is one of seven universities involved in the project which is itself part of the New Dynamics of Ageing research programme. This will involve collaboration with other groups, and travel to UK project meetings. http://www.newdynamics.group.shef.ac.uk/projects/category/1
The post would suit someone from the Inclusive Design field, with a first degree in a design or social science subject. Candidates should also hold a second degree and/or PhD in Interaction Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction or related discipline. The postholder will be required to have specialised training or research experience in the envisionment of new digital products and services, ideally for older people. The post is available from 1st November 2009 for 24 months.
