dear fellow critical geographers,
I've recently begun my first teaching appointment post-PhD and I'm
currently convening a 2nd year development geography course. After an
early evaluation of how students are experiencing my course, they have
requested the use of more multi-media in lectures (the lecture is a long
2 hours first thing on a Monday morning!) Our university library has
mostly out-of-date video materials, and now I seem to be spending many
hours looking for appropriate video material online for teaching
purposes, so far without a lot of success.
I would be most grateful if anyone else teaching development geography
or related subjects who use multi-media sources in their lectures, could
please share with me some links or titles of those sources.
Topics covered in my course are the following:
Colonialism, and colonial legacies
Globalisation, development and underdevelopment
Social movements and (post)development
International development institutions
Mineral resources, conflict and development
Population, consumption and development
Resource scarcity, adaptation and climate change
Migration and development
Transnational corporations and development
Urbanisation and development
Rural development and agriculture
Aid and development
Tourism and development
Sincerely,
Dr. Michelle Carnegie
