For UK-based colleagues:
Archaeobotany Workgroup - Saturday 3 October 2009
Oxford Archaeology - Lancaster
The next archaeobotany workgroup will be held at Oxford Archaeology North in Lancaster on Saturday 3 October 2009. As ever those attending the work group should bring along something for everyone to eat at lunch (fruit, cheeses, home-made savouries, nice breads, cakes, etc...). Coffees, teas and juices will be provided.
Our provisional programme is attached. The morning session is dedicated to a discussion on the differences between the quality and quantity of charred plant remains in different regions of the British Isles. We also want to consider appropriate sample volumes and how to record unquantifiable charred plant remains and/or other components in the matrix of our samples.
Given the time of year, we would welcome examples of collected fruits/ nuts for the afternoon demonstration session.
We also have had a request for colleagues to bring examples of einkorn (although possibly useful to also bring emmer) for demonstration. In particular to discuss the identification criteria between the two.
If you are interested in attending please contact Elizabeth Huckerby ([log in to unmask]) to confirm you are coming.
