Aloha,
Of course there is a working Ouija board Java app on the web at The
Museum of Talking Boards site:
http://www.museumoftalkingboards.com/WebOuija.html
This site also provides a nice gallery of many boards and planchettes.
I clicked on the 'Ask" button with no particular question in mind,
which I suppose makes my inquiry apply to current circumstances.
I received the response "AWAIT." Yes, I know it's an app, not
spirits talking!
I will add that I, myself, and the Trads and lodges that I'm involved with
are pretty much on the side of leaving Ouija boards alone. The most
telling reason suggests that such devices attract nuisance parasites
and akashic flotsam and jetsam. Or the psycho emotional counterpart.
In addition, it lacks the sort of appeal through randomness that I expect
of oracular techniques (being an I Ching guy).
I find that, as I mull it over, that I don't really regard the Ouija board
as a legitimate oracle. What it amounts to is that I don't consider
magical or occult tools from the Mattel-Hasbro conglomerate as
workable. Which is just my own silly anti-big American toy corporation
bias, because I would enthuse over a Hello Kitty board from a big
Japanese toy company. (I confess that I collect some Japanese
robot toys.)
Hasbro now favors a glow-in-the-dark planchette. Plus an overall
"girlified" sparkly pink set up that revved up a little blog tempest that
goes after, among other things, gender codification. What's more,
there's a Ouija movie deal afloat somewhere in the Hollywood seas--
a sign of possible marketing blitzes in the future if the movies goes
to a finish.
Early in my playing around with dadaist and surrealist writing
techniques, I did experiment with Ouija boards as a method of
automatic or spontaneous writing. More or less to no result. But
I note that the Wikipedia article lists a number of poets and writers
who used Ouija sessions as a regular technique. So there is a
creativity/inspiration angle to Ouija boards, too.
