JNCC’s work on marine protected areas (MPAs) in UK Offshore waters is rapidly
expanding in line with the emerging legislation from UK Government and the
Devolved Administrations. JNCC is collaborating with the Statutory Nature
Conservation Bodies, Defra and the Devolved Administrations on projects that
will identify possible locations in offshore waters to enable them to fulfil their
international and national commitments to establish a network of MPAs.
This post will co-ordinate the planning and assessment of the emerging UK
MPA network. You’ll lead in developing a GIS and database, co-ordinate data
gathering activities plus lead on mapping activities for UK Offshore waters. As
part of a new team of Marine Protected Area Specialists in the forefront of
MPA identification, you’ll be tackling an increasing demand for conservation
advice in this area.
The team will be based alongside JNCC’s marine industries advisors in Aberdeen
and complement existing Marine Protected Areas staff in Peterborough.
