The Space Research Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Graz,
Austria, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in the field of
Space Plasma Physics. The position is immediately available for one year
and may be extended up to three years. The work will be embedded in a
research project of the Austrian Science Fund entitled "New Approach to
Flapping Oscillations in the Magnetotail Current Sheet", headed by Prof.
Helfried Biernat and conducted in collaboration with the Institute of
Computational Modelling of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Krasnoyarsk.
The successful applicant will have to develop a numerical model to study
flapping oscillations in the Earth's magnetotail and will have to conduct
parameter studies as well as comparisons of model results with
observations.
The suitable applicant should have a PhD in Physics, Mathematics or
related fields and should have good experience with programming languages
(C, Fortran) and with solving partial differential equations numerically.
Knowledge of plasma physics, MHD and of the Earth's magnetosphere as well
as experience with numerical simulations of flows will be viewed as
advantageous.
Salary: approx. 44,000 per year (gross)
