Inaction: Action: Redaction
"Well, you feel uneasy, and you get going with a pencil or a pen, and
rhymes
emerge, sentences emerge... what happened? Something began to boil
around
in my mind."
(John Berryman)
We invite papers from every area of English studies considering this
theme and related issues in literature. Areas of interest may
include:
- Texts 'in flux': self-editing, revisions and editorial practises
- From inertia to creativity: the composition process
- Endings, non-endings and questions of closure
- Literary fragments, fragmentation and disintegrating texts
- The consumer as editor and the co-creative reader
- Punctuation and its function (ellipses, lacunae, commas and dashes)
- The functionality of rhyme and lineation (the closed couplet vs. free
verse; enjambed lines vs. end-stopped lines; defining a "prose poetry").
- Is art progress? Or is it true to say that poetry - or prose, or
theory -
"makes nothing happen"?
Submissions on other topics will also be considered.
Postgraduate English also solicits book reviews for the coming year;
please
contact the editors regarding the title you wish to review. We will
