Dear list member (with apologies for cross-posting)
New Libraries, Archives and Information Services Qualifications
Lifelong Learning UK is developing qualifications across and specific to
the four nations for the Qualifications and Credit Framework and
Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework for Libraries, Archives and
Information Services
Why are they needed?
Lifelong Learning UK's Sector Qualification Strategy Action Plan
identifies the development of these qualifications as a critical
priority. Feedback from people in the sector confirms that the existing
qualifications in this area need to be reviewed.
The scope of the project is to consult with the sector to determine
qualification requirements at the operational level for the Libraries,
Archives and Information Services sector across the four nations. We aim
to develop new qualifications that are fit for purpose and fully
supported by the sector. We are also looking at how qualifications can
be used in Modern Apprenticeships, Foundation Degrees, accredited short
programmes and pathways to professionalism.
Lifelong Learning UK's strategy for qualifications development includes
the necessity for collaboration with practitioners, awarding
organisations and professional bodies. To this end an expert working
group of representatives has been convened to support and guide the
qualifications development.
Lifelong Learning UK will be holding consultations throughout the four
nations to gather further insight from the wider workforce.
