(1) We also try to improve the tools (not make them worse!) so new
should be better than old ones and we would also recommend using the
recent version. As to whether it makes a difference with respect to a
problem or issue, that really depends on the exact details and I can't
comment without more information.
(2) If you want more than the 3x3 grid of images that slices creates
then you should
either use FSLView (which is the better option for interacting with
your data) or
slicer (which generates image files in png format that you can then
view with another
(3) See the answer to question 1. Also, the volume is currently
the image outputs, not the bvars file.
(4) If you type Renderstats (or Renderstats_gui on a MAC) at the
then you should get the renderstats gui.
