This is an announcement of RENCI DataLab, a project to explore ways of
improving curation, sharing, and integration of research data. The
current focus is on defining primitives for data curation, retrieval,
and exchange, as well as integration of data with user code and
computing resources.
DataLab has released open source server software (Sarcomere) and is
developing a conceptual data abstraction for relational data
("Sarcomere schema") and a data management protocol specification
(THUMP-DL). The Sarcomere software layers over existing RDBMS and
arbitrary schemas and runs either standalone or behind an existing web
server.
