Andy - your reference to London Underground may relate to concerns
over stripping plaster from the old stations as htis contained horse hair
as a strengthener and the ocncern was that this could contain viable
anthrax spores. I f I remeber correctly when we did this work we did
not find any actual anthrax spores but as I didn't do that job I may be
wrong.
Previously I have dug up landfills with anthraxed cattle buried in them.
We consulted a local vet to see what concerns they would have,
thinking that a vet might be a bit more up to date and caring about
risks such as these. The general view was that you'd have to be
damned unlucky to catch anything after 50 years burial but a simple
course of antibiotics would sort you out if you started having "flu-like
symptoms".
