Text from David Pollard:
A member of the public brought an item into the Museum yesterday for identification. It came out of the coal delivered by Chivers in Devizes. I do not know whether you will have any idea what it is but I have asked Lisa to take some photos and email them to you.
Overall it is about 6" long x 2 1/2" in diameter and externally has a coal appearance. Examination of the ends, which seem broken off, suggest a glassy or resin interior. Running up the centre is a rubber tube which appears cast in and again is broken off at the ends.
Any suggestions gratefully received
