medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hi,
I have recently acquired two medieval manuscript leaves the texts of which I
have been unable to identify and I am wondering if there is anyone who may
be able to assist with identifications please.
The first is a leaf written in French and I would date it to c. 1475. The seller
described it as referring to the needlessness of jurisprudence and astrology.
The text includes references to Bede, Saint Gregory and the Deadly Sins. It
also includes references to the Children of Light, good and bad experiences
and also, possibly to Bordeaux (see line 39, column 1 of the verso - this seems
to translate to something like "...the whore of those that profit at Bordeaux").
I have posted scans of the leaf on Flickr. The recto can be found at

and the verso at

The second leaf is in Latin and the text is of a patristic or theological nature.
It could possibly be from a “Historia Scholastica” This suggestion is based on
there being the addition in the top margin of the recto in pale brown of “Regu
iij9”, i.e. Kings III and also that the last three lines of column on the verso
seem to be from the Historia Scholastica of PETRI COMESTORIS, although
none of the rest of the text seems to be from there.
Again, I have posted scans on Flickr. The recto can be found at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/36735978@N05/3772471666/
and the verso at

I do hope that there is someone out there who can help me. If any one
would like better pictures than those that are of Flicker, please do ask.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to receiving feedback.
Best wishes,
Roger Martin.
