The Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials and Statistics Unit at The ICR (ICR-CTSU), one of the world's leading cancer research centres, is looking for a motivated individual to join its team.
Medical Statistician
Starting salary: £30,859-£37,476, potential for starting salary up to £40k for exceptional candidate.
* Are you motivated by the scientific and biological rationale behind clinical trials in cancer?
* Are you looking to develop your statistical career within an academic research environment?
We have created a new position within the ICR-CTSU for a statistician who will focus on the design and analysis of translational research studies associated with the ICR-CTSU's trials portfolio. We seek a talented, dynamic and resourceful individual who will play a key role in the development of new biomarker translational research projects and associated methodology.
The importance of translational research in clinical trials is now widely recognised. This 'bench to bedside' science aim is to identify mechanisms of response and resistance to therapies and thereby allow a tailored approach to treatment, and also identify new targets for intervention. ICR-CTSU aims to contribute to and, where possible, lead national systems for sample acquisition, both in terms of collections of archival tissue blocks associated with high quality randomised trials and real time collection of tumour specimens (i.e. fresh and frozen tissue) for trials involving gene array analysis and molecular profiling. Applying and developing appropriate statistical methodologies to analyse data arising from these collections is now a key challenge.
The successful applicant will join a team of statisticians and will work with ICR-CTSU staff and expert colleagues to develop a research program in the statistical aspects of translational/biomarker oncology. Candidates for this post should have a background in the analysis of large and complex datasets plus excellent communication and organisational skills. Applicants should hold a post-graduate degree or first degree and at least 1-2 years experience in translational/biomarker statistics. The ability to lead and develop a research program is required as are the excellent interpersonal skills necessary to work with a wide variety of collaborators.
Appointment will be on a fixed term contract to 30 September 2013 in the first instance and may be renewable depending on funding. This position is funded by Cancer Research UK.
