Not sure this response will count as "luck" ;) but generally, I think
most will agree that it does not make too much of a difference. This
setting determines the starting estimates for the affine transformation,
i.e. which combination of parameters will be tried first (see John
Ashburner's paper from 1997, NI, Figure 3). The best fit for your
individual image will still be determined based on minimizing the
differences, though.
As to the options you listed, an affine transformation is definitely
recommended. You can try either the ICBM or the averaged brain option,
but I doubt it will make much of a difference. If you are interested in
exploring this formally, you could determine the parameters both ways
and then look at the accuracy of the resulting spatial normalization.
