The "Neuromodulation of Lifespan Cognition Project"

the Center for Lifespan Psychology together with the “Neurocognition of
Decision-Making Group (http://www.mpib-berlin.mpg.de/snwg/) at the Max
Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, Germany invite
applications for a Research Scientist position.
The Neuromodulation of Lifespan Cognition Project investigates the
influences of neurotransmitters (e.g., dopamine and serotonin) on cognitive
development across the lifespan. We take multiple approaches (imaging
genetics, pharmacological fMRI, and neurocomputational modeling) to
investigate individual and age-related differences in neuromodulation of
brain functions underlying cognition. The Neurocognition of Decision-Making
Group is an interdisciplinary team, which investigates mechanisms of
decision-making in the human brain with a combination of neuroimaging (MRI,
MEG, EEG, simultaneous EEG-fMRI) and computational modeling. The good
infrastructure (behavioral lab, EEG, MRI) and collegial atmosphere with the
opportunities to interact and collaborate with colleagues from the MPI and
the large neuroscience community in Berlin provide a stimulating and
productive research environment.
A successful applicant needs to have a PhD in a field related to cognitive
neuroscience (e.g., cognitive neuroscience, psychology, or medicine).
Applicants should further have a strong background in the design and
statistical analysis of fMRI experiments. The 3-year position (with a 2-year
extension possible) is part of a new interdisciplinary project within the
context of “Nationales Netzwerk Computational Neuroscience – Bernstein
Fokus: Neuronale Grundlagen des Lernens“ that is funded by the Federal
Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). We will combine fMRI, genetics,
dietary interventions that challenge the dopamine and serotonin systems, and
computational modeling to investigate neuromodulation of temporal
discounting in younger and older adults. Salary will be according to "EG 13
TVöD", formerly BAT Ib/IIa. The position is available from Oct 1, 2009 (or
earlier).
