1 Postdoctoral position
Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin
One full-time postdoctoral position is available for a period of 4 years in
the group of Prof. John-Dylan Haynes at the Bernstein Center for
Computational Neuroscience Berlin (http://www.bccn-berlin.de/People/haynes).
Research in the group focuses on functional brain imaging of conscious and
unconscious processing in several cognitive domains. A variety of methods
are used including behavioural and psychophysical measurements, functional
magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), EEG/MEG and near-infrared spectroscopy
(NIRS).
The project will build on previous work using multivariate pattern
recognition applied to neuroimaging signals in order to track a person's
mental state. Specifically, the project will explore the information
contained in NIRS measurements of brain activity and compare it to
information contained in EEG and fMRI signals. The work will be performed
within the Bernstein Focus Neurotechnology Berlin, a center dedicated to
research on applications of neuroscientific technology. There are close
collaborations with the groups of Dr. Jens Steinbrink (on NIRS) and Prof.
Klaus-Robert Müller (TU) (on machine learning).
The position requires a PhD in a relevant field, such as neuroscience,
physics, cognitive science, cognitive psychology or computer
science/mathematics. Experience in cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging,
programming (especially MATLAB) and NIRS are desirable. Experience in
optics, physics, machine learning or computational modelling would be useful
but is not required.
The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, conducting and
analysing experiments and will work as part of a multi-disciplinary research
team. The position offers excellent training in advanced aspects of
neuroimaging in the environment of the Bernstein Center for Computational
Neuroscience and the Bernstein Focus Neurotechnology.
