CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
First International Conference on
ALGORITHMIC DECISION THEORY (ADT 2009)
October 21-23, 2009, Venice, Italy

*** Early registration deadline: July 18, 2009 ***
*** IMPORTANT: book your room as soon as possible ***
*** NEW: grants for participants from weak currency countries ***
The COST Action IC0602 and the EURO Working Group on Preferences are
proud to announce the 1st International Conference on Algorithmic
Decision Theory, a new unique event aiming to put together researchers
and practitioners coming from different fields such as Decision
Theory, Discrete Mathematics, Theoretical Computer Science and
Artificial Intelligence in order to improve decision support in the
presence of massive data bases, combinatorial structures, partial
and/or uncertain information and distributed, possibly inter-operating
decision makers. Such problems arise in several real-world decision
making problems such as humanitarian logistics, epidemiology, risk
assessment and management, e-government, electronic commerce, and the
implementation of recommender systems.
The 1st International Conference on Algorithmic Decision Theory (ADT
2009) intends to be an interdisciplinary forum on:
-- Uncertainty and Robustness in Decision Making
-- Preferences in Reasoning and Decision
-- Decision Theoretic Artificial Intelligence
-- Learning and Knowledge Extraction
Program:
The program of the conference will include invited talks, tutorials,
and oral presentations. The invited speakers are:
-- Craig Boutilier, University of Toronto, Canada
-- Jean-Christophe Culioli, AirFrance-KLM, France
-- Mike Trick, Carnegie Mellon University, USA
-- Peter Wakker, Erasmus University, The Netherlands
Location:
ADT 2009 will take place in the Venice lagoon, in the island of San
Servolo. The island hosts a conference center and a range of
accomodation facilities. To reach the conference venue, it is enough
to arrive in Venice, since the island of San Servolo is within easy
reach (10' ferry boat) from Piazza San Marco. Venice can be easily
reached from all over the world via its airport, which has many
international flights. Besides the accomodations provided on the
island, participants can choose to stay in one of the many hotels in
Venice.
Registration:
It is possible to register online until October 10, paying either by
bank transfer or by credit card. On-site registration is only cash.
Registration fee:
-- early (until July 18): 200 euros (full) and 80 euros (students)
-- late (after July 18): 350 euros (full) and 150 euros (students)
The fee (both full and student) includes:
-- the participation to the technical program and the tutorials,
-- the Springer proceedings,
-- the welcome reception on October 20,
-- breakfast, lunch, and coffee breaks for October 21-22-23.
Conference banquet:
The conference banquet will take place on October 22 in Torcello, a
small island of the Venice laguna. The fee is 75 euros and can be paid
online with the registration.
The banquet fee includes:
-- a guided boat trip from the conference venue to the dinner site and
back,
-- possibly a visit to the Torcello cathedral,
-- the dinner on the Torcello island.
Accomodation:
It is advised to book a room on the San Servolo island, where the
conference will be held. An accomodation form is available on the
conference web site. A block of single and double rooms has been
guaranteed until July 18. However, since there may be not enough
rooms for all participants, we strongly suggest to book a room as soon
as possible.
Grants:
There will be some money to support participants coming from weak
currency countries. The amount given to each person will depend on the
number of requests. People who want to request such a support should
contact as soon as possible Francesca Rossi by email
([log in to unmask]). Requests will be accepted only until July 30.
