Although the article addresses some interesting points (I agree that the
concept of an avant-garde as an oppositional front to the mainstream is
dead) the main element (Leadbeater¹s report) looks like a manifesto designed
to keep arts consultants in perpetual employment. Simon Yuill is right - the
avant-garde has eaten itself and entered consultant heaven (also known as
vapour-ware). I wonder what an impending Tory government will mean for this
economy (shiver)?
