Subject: Librarians will run Tamiflu centres
[I just posted this to CILIP's 'Library and Information Update' blog:
http://communities.cilip.org.uk/blogs/update/archive/2009/07/17/librarian=
s-will-run-tamiflu-centres.aspx
]
Channel 4 News last night reported that "librarians will run tamiflu centres", as part of its lead news item =96 though gave no further detail= s.
I don't know what the national picture is, though do know that Warwickshi= re, for instance, has agreed to libraries acting as distribution centre for T= amiflu.
"Five Warwickshire libraries will act as collection points for anti-viral=
medicines if cases of swine flu become widespread in the county'.
"The contingency plan has been agreed between NHS Warwickshire and the County Council=92s Adult, Health & Community Services directorate."
"If swine flu reached pandemic proportions in Warwickshire =91flu friends=
=92
would be able to collect medicines for sufferers from local libraries, us= ing a =91unique reference number=92 issued to individual patients, by telepho= ne or online, by the National Flu Helpline".
Chief Librarian (and CILIP Councillor) Ayub Khan said: =93The Library & Information Service is ready to help out, if it becomes necessary. Though= we hope the health emergency never happens, the county contingency plan clea= rly recognises our place at the centre of local communities. It also demonstrates to the Council that libraries have a key role to play during=
times like this, as they are ideal places in local communities."
Are there similar contingency plans involving libraries around the whole = UK?
**Please get in touch with Update if you have further information about libraries running Tamiflu centres**

Apply to become a member of your local Hospital !
Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust is applying to become a Foundation Trust and we want to recruit 4,000 members (who can be either patients or members of the public) from the local community to have a say in how the Trust is run and help shape the future of the hospital for the next 20 years. Members can:
* Help influence decisions about future plans for the development of the Trust.
* Support the work of the Trust and receive regular newsletters.
* Stand for election to the Council of Governors and work with the Trust Board to ensure that the Trust delivers services that reflect the needs of the local community.
If you feel you don't have the time to get too involved then that is fine - we can just send you information about our services so that you can keep up to date with our plans. We are reassuring all of our members that the level of commitment required as a member is entirely up to them and there are absolutely no fees or subscriptions.
Applying is very easy and will only take a couple of minutes. You can apply for membership online at: http://www.meht.nhs.uk/foundation-trust/apply-online/. Alternatively, you can request a membership application form by e-mailing [log in to unmask], by calling: 01245 514508 (during office hours) or by writing to Foundation Trust Office, Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, CM1 7ET.
