Hmmm, sounds like an "edge of spectrum" problem. So it's trying to draw
part of the slice and it thinks there are no points to draw. I just tried
to reproduce that here and didn't manage, so it likely depends on the
exact circumstances. I'll have a nose around the code because the Python
world ought to be able to stop that from happening (it's the C world where
that error is coming from).
