Waddesdon Manor is a National Trust property, open to the public, in
Buckinghamshire, managed by a Rothschild charitable trust under the
chairmanship of Lord Rothschild, which is now home to the Rothschild
Collection. The Manor was built by Ferdinand de Rothschild, who bought the
Estate in 1874. Three further generations of the Rothschild family lived at
Waddesdon, and the Estate is still run privately by the family. The present
Lord Rothschild divides his time between Waddesdon and a wide range of
business, philanthropic and arts and heritage interests. The post-holder will
be concerned with the records, both historic and current, created by all of
these entities.
The Records Assistant is a new position created to provide a unified approach
to record-keeping across the Waddesdon Estate, including the records held by
Waddesdon Manor. Based in Lord Rothschild’s office this person will be
responsible for the long-term filing of current and historic material, both paper
and digital, relating to the Manor, the Waddesdon Estate and Lord Rothschild’s
private office both at Waddesdon and in London. The Records Assistant will
also play a part in the planning of the contents management and preparation
for the transfer of material to a new, purpose-built Archive building on the
Waddesdon Estate.
