For those who requested feedback:
Re the OraQUick HIV test - claiming 99% specificity and 100% sensitivity with oral fluids, and a single step procedure, it provides a rapid and non-invasive test.Trials were carried out initially at Barts, and currently Northwick Park and Central Middlesex are on trial too.As the patient can use the swab themselves, once around the mouth between teeth and gums top and bottom, it is well tolerated. The swab is then placed in a plastic vial of developer solution and results are available in 20 minutes and any trace of a line in the test area indicates a positive. The only caveat is that it will not detect antibodies during the seroconversion phase. The kit can also be used with capillary whole blood or plasma.Positive liquid QC is available.
Price as ever depends on the volume sales. Comes in boxes of 25 or 100. It is marketed in UK by Launch Diagnostics Ltd tel 01474-874426
