in a suburb of CD, below the castrum, (CD being the major town of the region
--the Dunois-- and, briefly, the seat of a bishop); looted in the 9th century;
restored as a convent in 1045, it was the major institution for women in the
11th -12th c. Chartrain region:

rather thoroughly obliterated in the Revolution, with nothing, as far as i am
aware, left above ground.
also in the Beauce is the village of Saint-Avit-les-Guespières, on the Loir a
few km. SW of Chartres, towards Brou.
its church was, from the 11th century, a priory of Marmoutier (beato Martino
de Maioris Monasterii), but i know nothing more about it, save what i see
here
