medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Learned friends,
Once again I crave your help.
My wife and I hope to spend the month of February in England. As I have
before, again I ask for advice concerning what locations are "absolutely
must sees" from the standpoint of medieval religion.
We have benefited greatly from your past advice, and we plan to follow
much of it again, for many of your recommendations are well worth a
second visit.
Any advice, especially concerning sites that you personally find
interesting/beautiful/inspiring/ educational, will be greatly
appreciated. I have found your personal recommendations far more
helpful than a shelf of tour guidebooks.
As a sort-of-retired pastor (Do any of us on this list ever really
retire? Or is it merely that they stop our salaries?), I look forward
to our return to Canterbury and the shrine of Thomas Becket. I think a
visit there should be part of every clergyman's education. So much for
my personal recommendation.
I appreciate your tolerance of this misuse of our list, and lest folks
get bundles of superfluous e-mails in these days leading up to Leeds, I
would ask that you reply off list.
Again, thanks to all who have guided us in the past.
In gratitude,
Frank
