Subject: physical geography/geomorphology job - deadline
Hi everyone -
We have just announced an open position in physical
geography/geomorphology at Durham University. The position is
permanent, subject to a standard probationary period, and the
appointment will be made at Lecturer B level (equivalent to a US
assistant professor). More details can be found below and at
https://jobs.dur.ac.uk/jobdtls.asp?Session_in=&Uid=&vref=3268.
The closing date for applications is 19 June 2009. Interviews will be
held in July.
I'd be grateful if you could pass this message on to any colleagues
who might be interested in the position, and please feel free to
contact me with any questions ([log in to unmask]).
Alex Densmore
Lecturer in Physical Geography, Durham University
The Geography Department, top-ranked in the RAE2008, seeks to appoint
an early-career scientist to join its Catchment, River and Hillslope
Science research group and contribute to physical geography teaching
programmes in the department. Applications are invited from candidates
with interests in any area of quantitative research into catchment,
river and hillslope science. We seek to complement or extend our
existing expertise rather than duplicate it. We would therefore
particularly welcome applicants who would build on the department’s
key strengths in river hydraulics, sediment transport and sediment
budgets, hydrochemistry, flood risk, water pollution, rock/soil
properties, landslide mechanisms, landscape evolution, and tectonic
geomorphology. An interest in hazard and risk research could be an
advantage. The successful candidate will (1) demonstrate a track
record of or potential for internationally excellent publications and
external funding, (2) meet international standards of excellence as
defined by the Research Assessment Exercise, and (3) have a 3 year
personal research plan, which supports and enhances the research
strategy of the Department. The successful candidate will also show a
commitment to delivering excellent teaching at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels.
This non-fixed term post is available from 1st September 2009.
Salary: 36,532 - 43,622 (GBP) per annum
Closing Date for Applications: 19/06/2009
