Hi everyone, I've replied directly to Grant but for anyone else who is
interested: the software is available free to universities for teaching and
research.

For details go to our web site or to set the process in motion contact

Subject: RE: Midland Valley- MOVE Software for teaching and research

 Hello Alan,
You may have been at AAPG in Denver last week, if so sorry I missed you.

I am just in the final stages of finishing my lab here at Dalhousie
University. It includes 8 workstations and two visualization centres. Prior
to joining Dalhousie I was with Exxon and then Texaco's research centres in
Houston.

I remember your offer of software and am wondering if you are still
considering this? I may be in a position to also consider the support
package for a year. Could you provide a current quote for the software
support?

All the best,

Grant

Subject: Software for teaching and research

Hi everyone,

You all know about my concern about field skills and an understanding of
map/section and 3d geology.
This year Midland Valley is 25 years old and as part of our investment in
the next 25 years we have decided to offer all universities our new Move
software free for teaching and research. Move combines all of the 2d, 3d and
analysis tools in our commercial software. This means you can have access to
multiple licences for class room, field and research lab use.

I have pasted below the text from our announcement on this program which
gives some further details and how to go about accessing this.

Also please remind your students about our annual undergraduate and
post-graduate prize for structural geology.

All the best for the new academic session.

Alan

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Midland Valley is increasing its investment in Research and Training of our
future geologists by opening up access to our Move software on a new
academic licence agreement. This builds on our Field Mapping Initiative
launched last year and represents a significant increase in our academic
related investment.

With an increased global need for energy and minerals, the next generation
of geologists have the triple challenge of exploring in more complex areas
for our needs, producing reserves economically and then developing the best
waste disposal and sequestration approaches to minimise our environmental
footprint.

Move is the only package that offers users the full range of tools for
kinematic analysis and is backed by a team of specialists dedicated to the
continuous evolution of the software and the underlying science as well as
project and training support.

Midland Valley's Academic Software Initiative is focused on providing the
best support for the next generation of geoscientists and researchers.

Midland Valley has 25 years of commitment to academic teaching and research.
Through our software licences we support research and teaching world-wide
and work pro-actively with a number of institutes in the UK, EU and the US
on a range of topics in structural geology.

Each year we award the Midland Valley Prize for the best undergraduate and
postgraduate structural projects; we undertake occasional workshops and
lectures for departments where we have long term relationships; direct
research grants and occasional sabbatical support are available for a small
number of appropriate projects; annually we offer a small number of student
twelve-month intern positions to encourage young professionals.

Within the Academic Software Initiative institutes will be supplied, free of
charge and on an annual basis, with as many licences of our Move structural
modelling software as they require.

Move includes the following components:

2DMove - 2D structural modelling in a 3D world for map and linked section
construction, balancing, kinematic restoration, validation and structural
analysis.

3DMove - Advanced 3D structural modelling for geo-constrained structural
framework construction, model validation, using geo-constrained
construction, geometric restoration, geo-history modelling and advanced
structural analysis.

4DMove - The added dimension of scenario modelling with advanced structural
analysis and data compilation tools, stereo visualisation modelling with and
access to pre-defined modelling workflows including geomechanical
restoration (4DRestore), fracture modelling (4DFrac) and turbidite flow
modelling (4DSediment).

MoveViewer - 3D visualiser for viewing files made in any of the Move
components.

An additional Academic Support package is available for US$2,000 and
provides access to our help-desk, support team and the client secure section
of our website.
