I agree, reading the prior posts first is always a good start.
I am sure that the CBA and the IfA will be able to make their own minds up
once the Federation is up and running, and base it on whether or not it is
something of use to archaeology in general.
I have a saying... "Duplication is Irritation" so any serious
duplication in purpose would certainly irritate me, and I am sure everyone
else.... it should be a forward step - and have potential to be a useful
addition to existing organisations.
However, the members will decide that for themselves. -- One very useful
move will be the Field Archaeology Section (I would hope to tie this to the
Diggers Forum) to stengthen the voice of the Digger.
( I should point out: free membership to general section -- but group
membership will be based on peer review (still free though) or in the case
of students, such as Dairmaid, membership of the student group will be based
on active participation within a course relating to UK archaeology).
