Traffic Accidents Worldwide
What kills 1.3 million people worldwide each year, 90% of them in developing
countries?
It's not a disease, pandemic, or plague. Rather, it's traffic accidents.
Global Health guest blogger Mara Gordon details a World Health Organization
report this week saying that traffic fatalities are on track to become the
fifth leading cause of death worldwide over the next two decades.

Too Much Food
There is enough food in this world to make the entire population of the
planet fat. The problem of global hunger isn't because there's a shortage of
food, explains Sustainable Food blogger Natasha Chart, although that's an
easy argument that many people fall back on. Instead, the problem of hunger
stems from problems with food distribution, greed, land access, and
employment security.

Dave Wetzel's comment:
1. Is Obama the first US President to draw attention to road carnage?
2. nb the mention of "land access".
Land is a free gift of nature. Why should their be a problem of access that
keeps people hungry and poor?
Because our primary use of land is as a vehicle for investment and not as
the essential factor for meeting all mankind's needs.
When we improve transport, be it a new road or a new metro, landowners in
the vacinity will enjoy increased rental values for no effort on their part
at all!
Time for transport planners and practitioners demand that politicians return
land wealth to the people. Then we could not only finance more desirable
transort schemes but reduce income tax, vat sales tax AND tackle world
poverty!
Best Wishes,
Dave
