I think that it can get too wordy if there is too much text. Admittedly I'm slightly more inclined towards images, and probably have more knowledge about this art than many users - but I do think that having too many words to explain a web site can be very counter-productive, making it appear a drier, more academic site - and less attractive to more casual users.
