The value of each bursary is sufficient to cover Home/EU fees for 2009-10, and will rise annually as the fees the university charges increase in step with inflation. In addition, every student will be able to earn up to £5,000 per annum doing academic support work as requested by the Supervisor and/or Head of the subject area to which s/he is attached.

There will, in addition, be ONE three-year bursary limited to proposals in Politics and International Relations and attached to the newly-established Aston Centre for Europe (ACE). This bursary will be offered include a full maintenance grant at funding council level, which is currently £12,490 for 2009-10.

If you wish to apply for one of these bursaries, please complete and submit by 24th August 2009 an electronic PhD application form, which can be downloaded from the School's Research Degree website.

 http://www1.aston.ac.uk/lss/research/postgraduate-research/research-degrees-structure/#Entry_requirements.

This will enable us to check that no necessary details are missing.

Your application for the bursary should include a CV, a 2-3,000 word research proposal and the names of two academic referees. Applications for the studentship should be sent by email to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, or by post to Ms Margarita Seresht, School of Languages and Social Studies, Aston University, Aston Triangle, Birmingham, B4 7ET. Please mark the email or envelope with the phrase 'PhD Bursary Application'.

Not only applications, but also references, must arrive at the very latest by 24th August 2009. Candidates may be asked to attend for interview or to take part in a telephone-interview.
