My book would be of interest especially to archaeologists, who work on the
rural Mediterranean and focus on late historical periods (19th and 20th
centuries). In the book, modern pastoral landscapes are analysed from an
interdisciplinary perspective, which combines landscape archaeology, history
and ethnography. The main argument is that continuity and change in pastoral
practices in the countryside are determined by a combination of ecological and
historical factors. Central themes are the interplay between agricultural and
pastoral land use, the influences of markets for pastoral products, and
