In Hampshire we use an anonymous BoP prescription card which doubles as
an evaluation card / freepost postcard. We insert the cards into copies
of the BoP collection books as well as give them out to GPs / mental
health workers.

So far we have received back just over 300 cards. As you will see from
the attachment, the feedback is very positive. We also capture comments
made about the scheme and the specific book.

We felt that on balance this approach to evaluation was more meaningful
than counting simple output measure like issues and number of
prescriptions written. Certainly the latter figure was likely to be very
unreliable anyway.

Kind regards

I am hoping to carry out an evaluation on our BOP scheme too at some
point in the not too far off future and would welcome any suggestions on
how you are conducting or have conducted your evaluation and would be
very interested in your report if you don't mind sending it through.

Many thanks
Gill

Hi dawn,

E run a Bibliotherapy service Read Yourself well and it is being
evaluated by the University of the West of Scotland. I have a draft
report and am hoping to have a final report by the end of the month -
would this be of interest? We got Ethics Approval from Ayrshire & Arran
Health Board to run our study and have looked at CORE scores of
participants as well as other measures such as library usage.

If this sounds like what you are looking for don't hesitate to contact
me.

Dear all,

We have a scheme in Liverpool called 'Well Read' which has been running
for a few years now, and provides self-help type books to members of the
general public via public libraries in conjunction with Mersey Care NHS
Trust.

We are hoping to conduct some evaluation on the effectiveness of the
project so far, so that we can become better informed about how to
conduct the project in the future.

Can I ask if any of you know about any evaluation that has happened with

similar bibliotherapy / Books on Prescription schemes that you have been

involved with and that you would be happy to share with us? Your input
would be very valuable to us.

Thanks for your time.
Best wishes.
Dawn McGowan (Knowledge Services Assistant, Mersey Care NHS Trust).
