Dear All,
Thanks to everyone who replied to my message yesterday, you were all very
helpful and have helped me to move forward with some ideas for recording AfL
seminars and conferences.
Thanks to Nick at Inquit Audio, and Rachel Salaman at auidofortheweb.com, I
have narrowed things down to either a boundary mic
(http://www.inquitaudio.co.uk/html/microphones.html) connected to a
recorder, or a Zoom H2 (http://www.inquitaudio.co.uk/html/zoom_h2.html).
The Zoom, while not the most high quality solution, provides excellent
recordings for the price range and comes with a wide range of accessories to
start recording out of the box.
Our budget was the main limiting factor here, but the consensus seems to be
that the Zoom will do a good job for the quality of recordings we are after.
Inquit have even offered to lend us a Zoom for a 'try before we buy'!
I was also pointed to the website of the Vermont Folklore Centre who keep up
to date with recording technology and the blog on there was particularly
useful to read;
http://www.vermontfolklifecenter.org/archive/res_audioequip.htm
Thanks once again for all the help and I hope this goes some way towards
pointing others in the right direction.
Louise.
