1.1	Thinking Worlds Overview - 30 June 2009

Thinking Worlds is a "serious games" rapid development tool for
non programmers, developed by Caspian Learning. It was described by
Chris Brannigan during the 16 June ALT/ELN Webinar. Chris Brannigan will
present a walk through and demonstration of the Thinking Worlds
authoring tool.  The session will comprise a 45 minute demonstration
followed by 45 mins Q&A. Date:  Tuesday, June 30, 2009; Time:  1:00 PM -
2:30 PM GMT. After registering you will receive a confirmation email
containing information about joining the Webinar. System Requirements:

1.2 Awards – closing date 3/7/2009

1.2.1 Jorum Learning & Teaching Competition 2009
The Annual Learning & Teaching competition (previously known as the
Learning Object Competition) is again to be held in conjunction with the
2009 ALT-C conference in Manchester, 8-10 September. The panel of judges
will be looking for exciting, innovative learning and teaching resources
that have been created under a Creative Commons Licence to showcase at
the conference. Overall winners will be presented with their prizes at
the 2009 ALT Conference Dinner on Wednesday 9 September. The competition
is hosted by Jorum and sponsored by Intrallect. The closing date for
entries is 3 July 2009. For more information go to

1.2.2 The ALT-Epigeum Award for the most effective use of video in an
educational or training context.
The winner will receive a £500 cash prize together with an expenses-paid
trip for two people to central London to spend half a day meeting and
learning from the Epigeum team. The winning and any highly commended
entries will be showcased at the September ALT Conference in Manchester,
with the prize awarded at the 2009 ALT Conference Dinner on Wednesday 9
September.

1.3 CMALT

We are delighted to announce the 100th Certified Member of the
Association for Learning Technology (CMALT) and to convey our thanks to
everyone who has helped to get the CMALT scheme this far. We will
celebrate this milestone at ALT-C 2009 in Manchester 8 - 10 September
2009. For more information on CMALT and on the new support initiative

2.2 Video on a shoestring

5. ITTs and funding calls

5.1 Circular 4/08: Learning and Teaching Innovation Grants

JISC invites institutions to submit funding proposals for projects to
undertake work under the third round of its Learning and Teaching
Innovation Grants Programme. JISC wishes to fund one year projects and
activities that fit with the vision, outcomes and principles of the JISC
e-Learning programme and support innovative approaches to learning and
teaching. This is an open call, and projects dealing with any aspect of
e-learning are welcomed. To reduce the initial investment in time and
resource needed to develop a traditional JISC proposal and to encourage
speculative and innovative ideas from the community bidders are invited
to submit outline proposals. Funds between £25,000 to £75,000 for
projects of one year duration are available. JISC has committed at least
£600,000 for this activity during the three planned years of this
programme. The next deadline for submissions is July 20th 2009.

5.2 Grant Funding Call 01/09: JISC Content Initiative

JISC, National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) from the United
States, the National Science Foundation (NSF) from the United States,
and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) from
Canada invites institutions to submit proposals for the Digging into
Data Challenge. The JISC is making a total of £200,000 available for
this work.  Lead institutions in England and Wales may apply for up to
£100,000 of funding. The proposal process is in two stages and
interested potential applicants must first send a letter of intent by 15
March 2009. The deadline for receipt of the final proposal will be
Wednesday 15 July 2009.

5.3 Grant Funding Call 07/09: Data Management Infrastructure

Projects to identify requirements for, and then build, infrastructure
for effective data management within or across HEIs. Funding of up to
£250,000 per pilot project is available. The JISC will fund 6-8 projects
in total. Funding is available for projects starting from October 2009
for 18 months. All projects must complete by 31 March 2011. The deadline
for proposals is 12 noon on Thursday 6 August 2009. The JISC is holding
a community briefing event where potential bidders will be given
information about the background to the call, its objectives and the
bidding process. Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask
questions of JISC executive staff and relevant JISC committee members.

5.4 JISC ITT Modelling Scholarly Communication Transition

The JISC invites tenders to conduct a study to model the costs and
benefits of changing scholarly communication practices within UK HEIs.
Total funding of £50,000 (including VAT, travel and subsistence) is
available for this project. The deadline for proposals is 12 noon UK
time on Monday 13th July 2009.

8.2 Facilitating Online is a course developed from CET's experiences
training online facilitators and is for fully online and mixed mode
courses. The .pdf guide is available under a Creative Commons license.
It contains the course model, week-by-week learning activities, general

course, specific guidelines on each learning activity and access to the
