The Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials and Statistics Unit at The ICR,
one of the world's leading cancer research centres, is looking for an
experienced analyst / programmer, with a strong record of developing web
based systems using Microsoft technologies, to lead the development of
systems to support translational research within the Clinical Trials and
Statistics Unit (ICR-CTSU).
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join an
existing team of six database/system programmers providing IT support
for national phase III trials within the Clinical Trials and Statistics
Unit (ICR-CTSU). The Unit is based at the Institute's Sutton, Surrey
site.
The prime responsibility of the post holder will be to produce a web
based system for tracking samples between source hospitals and
laboratories, for inputting and storing the results of tests on those
samples, and for collating laboratory and clinical trial data, the
system being directly accessible to all collaborators.
Other duties will include:
- Leading the migration of other Unit systems to similar web based
technologies, as appropriate.
- Supporting more junior members of staff and participating in their
development and management.
- Participating in the overall planning and modelling of proposed
systems, and in the general work of the section, including database and
server management and user support.
- Representing the ICR-CTSU's Database and Systems Manager as
necessary
Applicants should hold a first degree in IT or a scientific subject and
have appropriate experience of programming web based systems. Experience
of programming in a research or clinical environment would be an
advantage, as would knowledge of biological / biochemical sciences.
Excellent communication skills are essential.
This appointment is funded by Cancer Research UK and will be on a fixed
