JOB DESCRIPTION
The main roles undertaken by the statistician are Study Statistician,
Delivery Team Leader, Clinical Information Science representative
Clinical statisticians provide professional statistical contributions to
design, analyse, report and interpret, an individual and/or a series of
clinical studies in a specified therapeutic area or area of expertise (e.g.
clinical pharmacology, discovery medicine, health economics).
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Application of professional statistical expertise and thinking to design
individual and/or a series of studies in a specified therapeutic area or
area of expertise (e.g. clinical pharmacology, discovery medicine, health
economics).
Within a specified therapeutic area, they may support a particular phase of
development.
Clinical statisticians may lead a delivery team, or be a CIS rep, as agreed
with their manager and project team.
Apply professional statistical thinking to perform the statistical analysis
of data and ensure appropriate interpretation of the results.
Detail statistical specifications for work contracted out to a CRO or
research collaborator
Monitor the statistical work done by a CRO or research collaborator for an
outsourced study
Negotiate time frames for the completion of tasks.
Deliver the tasks as agreed with results presented effectively.
A statistician would normally be assigned to a project with a more senior
statistician who could
provide guidance if required.
REQUIREMENTS
Essential - BS/BSc. in statistics or related field
Desirable -MS/MSc in Statistics or Medical Statistics, or PhD in Statistics
The statistician should have knowledge of statistical methodology and
statistical/mathematical programming.
It is an advantage to have knowledge of pharmaceutical drug
discovery,development and marketing issues arising in Experimental
Design/Clinical Study Design; SAS programming
SKILLS
Application of statistical techniques in the analysis of data from clinical
studies or other relevant areas
Ability to communicate statistical concepts to non-statisticians both
verbally and in writing
Ability to influence others in a team environment.
Presentation of statistical methods and results to a variety of audiences
especially non-statisticians.
Development of new procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the
group
Time management
