Would you like to get experience project managing a science event in the House of Lords? Would you like to find out more about how medical research is funded and science policy? Would you like to volunteer for a charity?
AMRC - the membership organisation of the leading medical and health research charities in the UK - needs an extra helping hand to organise the All Party Parliamentary Group on Medical Research's Summer Reception on 14th July 2009.
A volunteer would get the opportunity to:
Help co-ordinate an event involving 200 of the most exciting people in medical research, MPs and peers
Get lots of project management experience - from co-ordinating invites, collating responses, planning logistics and possibly even last minute crisis management.
Meet lots of interesting people working in science communication, policy and public affairs
Get an insight into the day-to-day work of medical research charities.
Plus attend for free (normally £160) AMRC's public affairs workshop on 25th June 2009 - a workshop for those working in policy and public affairs including sessions on parliament, reflecting on successful medical research campaigns and sharing experiences on how to engage parliamentarians and policy-makers - more details online here: http://www.amrc.org.uk/HOMEPAGE/Default.aspx?Nav=815,521,984 <http://pop.amrc.org.uk/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.amrc.org.uk/HOMEPAGE/Default.aspx?Nav=815,521,984>
When?
from the beginning of June until mid-July - the reception is on 14th July 2009
How much time would I need to commit?
approx 1-2 days a week - although this could be split however works best
Where?
Based in AMRC's offices at 61 Gray's Inn Road, near Chancery Lane tube.
This is a voluntary post but AMRC will pay basic travel and subsistence costs.
How do I get involved?
