POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW POSITION AT SRI INTERNATIONAL
The Molecular Physics Laboratory (MPL) at SRI International is searching for
well-qualified candidates for a post-doctoral position in experimental
physical chemistry. The main research project involves laboratory
experiments designed to elucidate the recently observed variability of the
D2/D1 ration of the Na emission in the upper atmosphere. Suitable candidates
will need to have a basic understanding of laser spectroscopy, reaction
kinetics and the airglow of planetary atmospheres.
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for laboratory operations, laser
maintenance, vacuum system operation, data acquisition, data reduction and
analysis. He/She will also have the opportunity to participate in other
ongoing research projects relevant to the terrestrial and planetary atmospheres.
The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the Physical Sciences Division's
Molecular Physics Laboratory, a 25-person research group specializing in the
research areas of upper atmospheric science, biomedical optics, and
trace-species detection.
Requirements: Recent Ph.D. in Chemistry or Physical Sciences. Prior
experience with lasers, molecular spectroscopy, laboratory studies of
reaction dynamics or kinetics is desirable.
SRI International is a nonprofit contract research organization, located in
Menlo Park, California, in the San Francisco Bay region, and is one of the
largest such establishments in the world. Many areas of research are
represented by the investigations carried out at SRI, including chemistry,
physics, engineering, life sciences, computer sciences, education, and a
variety of other disciplines. MPL has an international reputation for
creative and innovative research in atmospheric studies, combustion
processes, surface science, plasma research, and molecular beam research.
Appointment is for a minimum of one year, with a second year normally being
available upon mutual agreement. Full benefits are extended to Postdoctoral
Fellows, and assistance is available for relocation.
