You are cordially invited to the above lunch time seminar which is one of a regular series (normally every 4th Wednesday of the month) of PhD research seminars open to all. Please feel free to bring your lunch.
Abstract
This presentation is aimed at students and academics either based in health care conducting research or those outside of health care thinking about using ethnography to conduct research in a health care environment.
The key principles of ethnographic research will be presented and the unique issues presented when conducting research in the health care setting discussed. Issues pertinent to both insiders and outsiders to the health environment will be explored and the advantages and disadvantages of using ethnography in a health environment presented. This seminar will be illustrated with examples from my PhD research and the available literature.
Biography
Corrina Dickson gained her PhD at Bournemouth University in 2008 using ethnographic research methods in a health care environment. An outsider to healthcare, her background is in Sociology and Anthropology and her professional interests lie in ethnographic research methods, symbolic interactionism and ethics.
