Event: Understanding online audiences for cultural heritage organisations
Date: May 18th
Venue: The Herbert, Coventry
The Understanding Online Audiences workshop will look at online and off-line
methods to find out what audiences really want. The workshop will be
facilitated by Martin Bazley and Peter Pavement and the day will include hands
on sessions.
Increasing audiences are using the internet to help them choose what to see
and where to go. In response to this museums are increasing their online
presence and seeking to capture these audiences at their websites, either to
engage them online, or to persuade them to visit the museum physically. But
how can we understand our online audiences, and make sure that we are
delivering what the potential audience wants?
This one day course will look at the some of the issues around online
audiences and help museums understand how to understand them and the
data they provide. The day will cover:
- Setting the Scene - What are the benefits of gathering and analysing data
on our online audiences?
- Web statistics - What can we measure? And what is useful to analyse?
- What tools organisations can use to collect web statistics (practical)
- Online questionnaires - what tools are available? What can we get from
them? How to analyse them
- Combining data channels and developing strategy
