I remember that! I have an idea that my local library's label said that
the book(s) would be collected and either "disinfected" or destroyed. I
can remember occasionally getting a book that had the smell of "Izal
Germicide" toilet paper (the hard variety - that's why us old'uns are so
tough) and I would wonder if it was a disinfected book.

I'm old enough to remember when public library books bore a label
stating that, if any of certain communicable diseases (which included
influenza) were present in the household, the Librarian was to be
informed immediately. Perhaps it's an idea whose time has come again...

Subject: Library pandemic plans
Dear colleagues
Have any other higher education institution libraries formulated plans
for dealing with a pandemic outbreak? Our University has established an
Influenza Pandemic Management Team to ensure that the institution is
fully prepared , but I wonder if anybody has any particular plans for
their libraries?
I imagine this is something we are all having to think about just now,
so I will summarise any responses for the list.
Many thanks in advance.
