NICOLA TRANFAGLIA is Emeritus Professor of Contemporary History at the
University of Turin, where he was Dean of the Faculty of Literature and
Philosophy until 2002. He has been a member of several national councils,
including the Consiglio Nazionale dei Beni Culturali and the Comitato
Nazionale di Settore per gli Archivi. A columnist at La Repubblica and a
contributor to the weekly L'Espresso, he is also co-editor of Studi
Storici and a member of the scientific committee of the Fondazione
Nazionale Antonio Gramsci. He is a Member of the Italian Parliament and a
Candidate in the European Parliamentary Elections in 2009. His recent
publications include “Mafia, politica e affari 1943-199I” (I992), “La
prima guerra mondiale e il fascismo” (I995), “Un passato scomodo. Fascismo
e post-fascismo” (1996-98), “La tradizione repubblicana” (1997), “Fascismi
e modernizzazione in Europa” (2000), “L'Italia repubblicana e l'eredità
del fascismo” (2002), “Perché la mafia ha vinto. Classi dirigenti e lotta
alla mafia nell'Italia unita” (2008) and “Vent’anni con Berlusconi”(2009).
