Birmingham Archives & Heritage require an Archivist and an Oral Historian to
work on a project to document the history of past Children’s Homes
administered by Birmingham City Council. You will be based in our
Collections Development Team of 9 Archivists, 2 Librarians and 6 Cataloguing
Assistants. These posts are supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Archivist

£24,402 - £30,546 per annum
Fixed term contract for 12 months
You will catalogue the historical records relating to children’s institutions held
by the city and work with the project’s Oral Historian to document and make
accessible the experiences and stories of those living and working in the city’s
historic children’s homes. You will be a qualified Archivist, and will have
experience of cataloguing archives preferably using CALM. Effective
interpersonal and team working skills are also essential as is an awareness of
the issues and sensitivities around records relating to looked after children.
Oral Historian Children’s Homes Project

Fixed term contract for 12 months
You will undertake and catalogue oral history recordings relating to children’s
institutions held by the city,and work closely with the project’s Archivist to
document and make accessible the experiences and stories of those living and
working in the city’s historic children’s homes. You will be educated to degree
level, and have experience of undertaking oral history interviews and an
understanding of archives. Effective interpersonal and team working skills are
also essential as is an awareness of the issues and sensitivities around records
relating to looked after children.
